Come learn how each of us can impact our world locally AND globally due to our Rotary Foundation which is rated one of the best charities.Foundation receives highest rating from Charity NavigatorFor the 10th consecutive year, The Rotary Foundation has received the highest rating — four stars — from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the U.S.
In the most recent ratings, the Foundation earned the maximum of 100 points for demonstrating both strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency. In a letter to the Foundation, Charity Navigator notes that "only 1 percent of the charities we evaluate have received at least 10 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that The Rotary Foundation outperforms other charities in America. This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets The Rotary Foundation apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness." The rating reflects Charity Navigator's assessment of how the Foundation uses donations, sustains its programs and services, and practices good governance and openness. 18-Jan-2018
The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation funded solely by voluntary contributions from members and friends of Rotary who support its mission to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace. Using Rotary Foundation grants, Rotary's 34,000 clubs across the globe develop and carry out sustainable humanitarian projects and provide scholarships and professional training opportunities that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, sustain mothers and children, improve education, and strengthen local economies. The Foundation is a worldwide leader in the efforts to eradicate polio through its partnership with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. When Rotary launched its PolioPlus program in 1985, more than 350,000 people were afflicted with polio each year, and the disease was endemic in more than 125 countries. Since 1988, Rotary and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative have immunized over 2.5 billion children, reducing the incidence of polio by 99 percent and eradicating it from all but three countries. Rotary has contributed more than $1 billion and many thousands of hours to eradication effort. The Foundation also funds the training of hundreds of peacemakers through the Rotary Peace Center program, which enables fellows to pursue a master's degree or professional certificate at one of Rotary's partner universities. Through academic training, study, and practice, the fellows become leaders who promote peace and aid conflict resolution in their communities and around the world. |

Kayaking on the Milwaukee River. We will meet at Milwaukee Kayak Company and paddle the river. It's not a high current so is safe for all levels of kayakers and the kayaks are sit-on-tops which also makes them more stable. Several of our Rotarians also have extensive kayaking experience and have taught in excess of 100 people how to kayak. The cost is $20 for a single kayak for 2 hours and $35 for a tandem for 2 hours. This is a special rate for our club. Rotarians from any club, as well as, non-Rotarians and family members may join us. Reserve your place by Friday, August 31 at noon. Sign up will be available in next few days. Those who want to go out for dinner afterwards may join the group and pay for your own dinners. |

Sadly we say farewell to Gustavo de Arriba. He only recently learned that he has been hired at a new company based in Denmark and will be leaving at the end of next week. Please come wish him well whether you are a Rotarian or not. He will be deeply missed as he has been a very active Rotarian and has been a volunteer in all of our activities and has included family members as well. His daughter was also an attendee at the World Affairs Seminar with a sponsorship from the Mequon-Thiensville Sunrise Rotary Club. |

Rotary Foundation Global and District grants for District 6270 have been very successful in the past because they have involved members like you and I. MANY decades ago, Past District Governor "Ozzie" Oswald created opportunities for clubs to give for wells in Haiti and India. Today, Past District Governor Rick Debe is bringing new opportunities to our clubs as our 2018-2019 District 6270 Water and Sanitation Chair. Rick shared the following, "We are embarking on some larger Global grants for Water and Sanitation around the world. Our Clubs in #6270 are joining together to leverage and maximize our efforts. My mission is to bring members up to date on current projects and present the new partnership opportunities available. Our goal in Rotary is to be “People of Action”. My presentation will help you find your part in this future initiative." Open to Rotarians and non-Rotarians. |

ROTARY AMIGOS "ON THE TABLE" - GMF COMMUNITY WIDE CONVERSATIONS ON THE 9THRotary Amigos On the Table MKE community event invites ANY Rotarian from ANY club and all guests whether you know a Rotarian or not, is very welcome to join our conversation to have a facilitated discussion about improving the quality of life in our community. This will be one of many future conversations and forums that Amigos Rotary will host in this and coming years. Rotary Amigos is a unique club that goes beyond service and addressing community concerns. It is intentional about building diversity in it's membership to intentionally have more voices, perspectives, and experiences at the table. Our club currently has members representing 10 different countries. Please join us for this conversation. Building on StrengthsGreater Milwaukee has what it takes to be a globally competitive, 21st century region. Like any community, we have our share of opportunities and challenges. Our region’s growing diversity is a significant strength, and it will be a competitive advantage for our shared future. In large part, our region offers a remarkable quality of life; however, for far too many people, opportunity for economic, social and civic participation is out of reach. In areas such as income, incarceration and entrepreneurship, we face significant disparities based on race and ethnicity. Moreover, these disparities are often more pronounced here than in similar regions. Achieving our shared goal of a thriving region will require building upon the strength of our diversity while ensuring that race and ethnicity are never barriers to all people reaching their full potential. On the Table MKE has the potential to accelerate our community’s progress. Need not register to attend - just show up by 6 pm at the Milwaukee Athletic Club - 2nd floor Braves Room. |

The Global Water Center Tour and WaterPODNOTE - onsite meeting at 247 W Freshwater Way, Milwaukee This is an excerpt from the Nov. 2017 Biz Times Stonehouse Water Technologies, located at the Global Water Center, plans for its final manufactured product, the WaterPOD 8, to be commercially available in early 2018. The purification system can be used for residential, commercial and agricultural properties. “We’re hoping that, by as early as 2019, we will be selling thousands and thousands of units,” said Anne Wick, vice president of community relations. “This is going to be global, it’s not just going to be local.” In addition to manufacturing, the funding will be directed toward research and development, as well as marketing efforts, Wick said. The company has seven employees in all, having recently added two new employees. Wick credits Stonehouse’s residence in the Global Water Center and guidance from the Water Council in helping the company secure the investment. Stonehouse was previously part of the Water Council’s Pilot Program, an effort by Wells Fargo, Fund for Lake Michigan, and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District to advance new water technologies from the lab in Milwaukee to demonstration sites for real-world use. “There are exciting and fascinating things happening here in Milwaukee when it comes to water,” Wick said. “And the Water Council has been instrumental. With the exposure that we get, you couldn’t get that anywhere else.” |
